Interesting Read
I recently went on vacation and was recommended "Paranoia" as a way to past the time on the plane. The person who recommended the book is an avid reader and obviously didn't know that it takes me forever and a day to read a midsize book such as this one. The book is 450 pages of intense drama.I was very proud of myself, it only took me two weeks to completely read this book, where it would typically have taken me months. You see books usually make me sleepy, and I end up putting them down before I finish a chapter. This is why I don't read, except for technical books or magazines which captivate my attention, mostly due to the briefness of their articles.
This book was different. It is about corporate espionage with a focus on Marketing. This was more than fiction, it resembled real life. This is a tale of a ruthless CEO taking advantage of a young man pulling a very expensive prank on the company for which he no longer can stand working for.
The difference here, is that you always hear people talk about how much they dislike their job, how much they wish they could do this and that, but in this book the main character goes ahead and find a way to do it. The only problem is that he gets caught and goes through the unexpected to get out of it. Joseph Finder, the author, surely know how to keep you at the edge and keep reading for more.
The bottom line is that most of us nowadays suffer from attention deficit. This is in part due to the nature of the Web and the instant gratification we get from it. My generation and those thereafter have a big challenge ahead of them.
