Def Leppard and Journey

They've been around for a while, it all began in the '80s and their albums Pyromania and Hysteria made them gods, well, let's just say that they been placed them in the "Diamond Club."

Def Leppard, headed by vocalist Joe Elliott are still as amazing today as they were then. Yes, I admitted, I like these guys, their music rocks, regardless of what many guys will tell you. These were the people I rock to in the 80's and I was rocking to them last week at the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Rocket is one of the first 80's songs that I recalled cranking out in the stereo. I lived in the Dominican Republic then, but we rocked just the same. These guys are now in their mid to late 40's, but they still performed as if they were in their 20's. In this particular venue, Def Leppard made use of three screens split to present some awesome graphics as well as camera effects that made the show one of the best I seen. Being a Designer is truly great to see a show where I could admire more than just the artists, but also the great art up on the screens.

I saw the same venue in June, but was disappointed because the first act, Journey was offkey and balance. I then came to find out a week later that Steve Augeri was suffering from a severe throat infection and had to leave the tour. The only thing that made this performance worth while was that all the other members passed on the mic through out the show proving that they still a great band.

It was a great show back then, but this one was more special. We manage to get great tickets, very close to the stage and very near the entrance/exit for the bands. We happened to have arrived a few minutes early, and instead of wasting time in the lobby, we decided to find our seats. This was a great decision on our part, as the seats allowed us to preview NEAL SCHON and his family. He was stretching on the side lines and it gave us a chance to see that these musical gods are but real people like you and me. He was hanging there with some of the band members, but more importantly, he was chilling with his wife and playing and chasing his kids around. This was an amazing experience.

Neal opened up with his traditional National Anthem guitar solo. Then the band played on and we were very excited to see there new singer, Jeff Scott Soto. This guy was unbelievable. He played like a true champion. More importantly he made the show about the band and not himself which most rookies tend to do. He got the band involved in every aspect of the performance. The vocals, though did not sound like original Journey vocalist Steve Perry, it was refreshing and exciting. Steve Augeri is a great vocalist, but he never ceased to be "the clone" to many of the fans. This guy definitely has a future with this band.

The bottom line is that although these two bands have proven themselves over and over again, they still try very hard and never cease to impress their fans. Def Leppard has a new album, Yeah!, its premise is pretty cool in that it is all about cover songs with a nice rock twist. These two bands came to play together and the producers have really found a winning combination. Rock On!!!!

Supernova is no more

I predicted this recently, but now is real. Supernova is no longer. No, they didn't break up just yet! After all they just became a band last night, but a judge in California has revoked the use of the name as it appears that a band in the area has been using the name for over 15 years.

Read more about this at: 'Rock Star' names singer, but Supernova in flux

The bottom line is that I'm not surprised about this, after all, why would an ass/2 show bother to do the research about a name when they being busy scamming us into thinking that they were really unsured about who they would pick as a lead singer. Last year they did it with JD and Marty, when Marty is the better vocalist, this time they scammed us with someone who isn't a vocalist at all.

Supernova made the right choice

At first I was a bit disturbed, fill with discussed, why in the world would they choose someone that I had to fast forward (I never watch real-time TV, thanks heaven for DVR) through everytime he performed. I mean Lukas, come on, really! I was upset to say the least, after all, I have tickets to their show.

I then did some research, and turns out that Tommy Lee has been looking to migrate into the punk, hip hop scene. Of course he is, however, hedging his bets as he still touring with Motley Crew.

I further got more excited when I realized that Gilby offered his services to Dilana and understood now that they see Supernova as big flop and obviously don't want great talent as Dilana and Toby associated with a failure.

I said it before and I say it again, obi already has one big hit from this show and if aligned with the correct folks he is soon to hit the charts with a platinum single.

Dilana in the other hand I foresee as anything that she touches going gold.

The bottom line is that although I have tickets to see them, I might just show up to see the house band with Dilana as a vocalist, check out Dave's new Panic band and quickly leave after the first couple of no-name Supernova's songs, except for the hey hey hey and ho ho ho, which although catchy, have the wrong vocalist behind it.

Supernova - down to the last four

So I finally caught up with the Rock Star Supernova season to see the final four.

I have to say that although I thought Lucas sucked in his last performance, I'm glad to see Storm gone, leaving Dilana in the race. She's been my number one pick since the beginning of the
season and she has gotten quite the bad rap in the past couple of weeks. Like everything, this must be another TV scam and it must be that Supernova has got a change of heart and doesn't want a woman fronting them. In all honesty, I can understand this, really, I can... Name a female rock star, go ahead, I challenge you... still waiting... see!

Anyhow, Storm was due out and to be honest, this season hasn't produced that many memorable performances in comparison to last season. As I saw Storm struggling to save herself, all I could think was that Marty did this song much more justice. At the time I thought he actually did it better than Pink Floyd. Check it out:

The bottom line is that I hope the producers of the show prove me wrong and show me that this has been but another scam for TV ratings and that they are going to pick the best vocalist for this band. Don't get me wrong Toby definitely kicks butt and his original tune will be on the charts. Magni, though the runner up in my list, has a funky thing going with his eyes that makes you loose interest at best. Only time will tell and I can't wait till next week, after all I got tickets to see whoever wins.

World Information

It has always been Google's mission to organized the worlds information. This is an ambitious goal on their part considering that information is infinite. First, how do classify information? Second, they are an online presence, and not all information is on the Web, not yet anyways.

Google, however is on its way, according to The Next Big Thing owns ten of thousands of servers and over 50 data centers spread throughout this Earth. With this infrastructure in place, they have the data storage and processing power to gather the information.

Gathering the information is not everything though, they need to organize this data. Instead of defining categories to throw information into, they have taken a very simple approach to this, let the user categorize it for them via searches. In other words, the user does a search and they simply find keywords within all the pages in storage.

With this tremendous undertaking, they have launch a series of products over the years. A new one was announced today, they are starting to archive news information. Now, what good is old news? To most of us not useful at all, however, to historians, researches and students, this archive could become the number one encyclopedia to turn to.

The bottom line is that you have to give a lot of respect to a company who sets out on a mission and sticks to it. Most companies diversified their products and services and it is rare to find one which sticks to its roots while innovating along the way. I do find it interesting that most of the new tools that Google have put out in the past year to year and half are ideal for Universities. I guess they realize that they have saturated their reach in the consumer and business space, time to move on into the educational market. How soon till we see Google University?

Crikey! is no More.

In a sad statement release y Discovery channel's Animal Planet today was announce the passing of Australia's most beloved and friendly inhabitant, Steve Irwin.

I remember watching the croc hunter Saturday morning with my son, Brandon, we would laugh and enjoy the friendly Aussie as he tried to unite humans to the animal kingdom. I heard the news this afternoon and was immediately sadden by this man passing. I'm not easily moved by tragedies to those unknown to me, but this is different as Steve had become friends to most of us via his TV show.

Unlike many celebrities, he was a real person playing himself and not just another TV character. He would say things like "When I talk to the camera, mate, it's not like I'm talking to the camera, I'm talking to you because I want to whip you around and plunk you right there with me."

Steve will be missed by many, humans and animals alike.
