Jaguar XK
I need a new car every few years. Now I know must people would be happy to drive the same car without even thinking about it as long as it gets them from point A to point B, but that's not the case for me. Currently I drive a BMW 525. This is supposed to be a luxury sedan, with that kind of ultimate driving machine, you would think I be happy, but I'm not. I'm actually rather dissapointed with BMW. Sure it is a high performance car, but it lacks in some comfort and minor nuisances that just don't make the vehicle what it's all hype up to be.
As time approaches for me to get a new car, we decided to have some fun and go test driving vehicles. We drove an Audi, Infiniti, and had our last stop at Jaguar. I have been wrestling with the idea of a convertible. I have never own one, and have ridden in one but a handful of times. I'm looking to find a vehicle that I would feel comfortable and happy in for at least 5 years, with the hope of at least 3.
I have been eyeing the Maserati, but recently have decided that with no dealers in the nearby area it may be a hassle when it comes to maintenance. This has led me to the Jaguar XK. The Jag has very similar looks. We test drove a 2006 and were rather dissapointed. The car felt like it was 10 years old not 3. As soon as we got in the vehicle we felt a violent shake. As we started our journey around Atlantic Blvd, the car felt like a 300lb linebacker trying to run a marathon, sluggish, out of breadth and struggling to keep moving. Acceleration just was not there, even when flooring the pedal. After a couple of miles we pulled over and got the top down. It took about 20 seconds to get there with a lot of hesitation from the windows in the process. Upon a return to the dealership, I didn't know what to say to the salesman, but to express my dissapointment with the vehicle and the ride.
The bottom line is that I'm glad that we test drove the car. For a month now I been struggling with the idea of a Jag, after all the reputation is not great. Everyone says that the Jag spends three days a week in the shop. The salesman assures me that the tires must not have had enough air, but I have been left with a sour taste not to come back and retry. Tires explain the shaking, but what about the power? I'm just not buying it. Hopefully I can find a Maserati to try next, I'm not buying before trying.
